The media is the message

In the space of less than one year we have seen the advance of a new form of communications technology, the vlogcast. As most people reach for their Ipod the new video Ipod has allowed informed, and not so informed, users to watch the machinations of others in trying to decipher what the world has to offer on a variety of subject matters. If Marshall McLuhan were alive he would certainly point to the Gutenberg Galaxy as the archetype of such a "revolution". However the underlying message remains "who cares?"

Day Three

Well according to my family this is the "Lords Day." According to the ancient customs of the church, and the common law, this was the day when peace and rest was the order of the day. But just think about the effects that technology has created throughout the centuries. At the very earliest times technology was used as devices for agriculture and war. And it is undeniably true that all cultures were agrarian in the beginning. So there are definite connections with the development of technology and the developments of arable land for cultivation. In a cruel twist, arable land also led to the intention of other cultures to capture this land. I definitely don't think that this is the only reason that people wanted to capture others property, but it was a good starting point.

More Later.

Day Two

Apart from the usual technology draped verbiage that you find in so much of the business press, what does "infinitely scalable" really mean?, its very difficult to find people who really understand/comprehend the nuts-and-bolts of technology based competition. I think Clayton Christensen and Geoffrey Moore are two that most people immediately recognize as thought leaders in this area. In my next installment I'm going to look at the basic philosophy of technology based strategy.
